The holidays are fast approaching, which means many families around the world will be sitting down to check out some of the many Christmas classics, such as Elf, in which Will Ferrell plays the title role.
Nearly 20 years after its release, the comedy film’s co-star Zooey Deschanel was feeling nostalgic and took to Instagram to snap pictures of the scene where her character Jovie is told to gain 6-inch band curls by her boss at Gimbels do, darling,” to which she defiantly shoots back, “It’s impossible.”
With the debate over whether it’s actually possible to make 6-inch band curls raging through these two decades, Deschanel doubled down on their claim that it’s still impossible.
Nostalgic: Zooey Deschanel, now 42, shared a few images from a classic scene in Elf (2003) and doubled down on her character Jovie’s claim that it was impossible to “cut 6-inch tapes”.
Fans may recall that the Gimbles manager, played by Faizon Love, complied with his request for ribbons by making it more of a demand: “SIX…. INCHES ….”, he said in the scene and ended the conversation.
“When he asks for 6 inch band curls… (that’s impossible)” the actress, now 42, explained in the caption, alongside a photo of herself in a red and green Christas ensemble.
The picture shows Jovie giving the boss a not-so-enthusiastic look at the time of the request.
Not with him: Jovie gave a not-so-enthusiastic look after her boss at Gimbels complied with his six-inch tape curl request by making it more of a demand: “SIX… INCHES….” He said scene, ending the call
In fact, she may be right that it’s impossible, given her character’s alleged lack of skills and seems lazy and uninspired at work.
Plus, she doesn’t love Christmas the way Will Farrell’s character Buddy Hobbs, aka Buddy the Elf, expects everyone to.
Directed by Jon Favreau from a screenplay by David Berenbaum, Elf tells the story of Buddy, a human raised by Santa’s elves who learns of his origins and travels from the North Pole to New York City to meet his birth father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a children’s book publisher who is unaware of his existence and is in dire need of some Christmas cheer.

It became a huge critical and commercial success, grossing $225.1 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of $33 million.
Over the years, Elf has been viewed by many as a modern classic and is often cited as one of the greatest Christmas movies of all time, due in part to Ferrell’s performance, which has been described as one of the best of his career.
