Auto theft is still a scourge in Montreal. Montreal-Trudeau Airport has not been spared from this phenomenon either and has recorded a record 69 vehicle thefts since the beginning of 2023.
A traveler told our TVA Nouvelles journalist that he experienced this situation while he was abroad.
During his seven-day trip to Jamaica, Francis St-Pierre had his car stolen from the Montreal-Trudeau airport parking lot.
When he returned from his trip seven days later, Francis couldn’t find his car in the parking lot. He quickly realized that his Genesis car had unfortunately been stolen.

Francis had paid $300 to park his car there during his trip, which irritates him even more.
“When we pay such an amount, we expect security to protect our vehicle. Security leaves a lot to be desired here. “Airport parking is over, I no longer try to stress myself when I travel and wonder if my vehicle will be there when I come back or not,” says François St-Pierre, the victim of the airport robbery.

An airport employee confirmed to him that a person had actually left Jamaica in his vehicle.
A record year for stolen vehicles at the airport
In 2022, 30 motor vehicles were stolen from Montréal-Trudeau Airport. In 2023 we are talking about a record number of 69 vehicle thefts at this location, and the year is far from over.

“The flight flew along the East Coast Road, near hotels and parking lots around Montreal-Trudeau Airport,” confirms Freddy Marcantonio, vice president of business development and sales for Repérage Tag Tracking.
The SPVM works with the airport to prevent these vehicle thefts.
