Animal Rebellion occupy Salt Bae’s celebrity hotspot Nusr-Et in Knightsbridge and brand him a “symbol of a broken system” in his latest stunt.

  • Animal Rebellion supporters occupied Salt Bae’s restaurant on Saturday night
  • The ‘Ultra Premium’ Steakhouse serves golden steaks for a staggering £1,450 each
  • Class action lawsuits will continue until the government takes “reasonable action”.

Animal Rebellion supporters performed a daring stunt at social media celebrity Salt Bae’s famed Knightsbridge restaurant Nusr-Et last night.

Eight protesters occupied reserved tables and called for a plant-based food system and conservation measures known as rewilding.

Salt Bae, the social media influencer and chef who rose to fame in 2017, has hosted David Beckham, Snoop Dogg and Leonardo DiCaprio at his “ultra-premium” restaurants.

In November, Salt Bae faced criticism on social media after boasting about a £140,584 bill from a customer in Abu Dhabi.

Protesters claim staff at Salt Bae’s upscale steak restaurant physically removed protesters from the venue “harder than police would do”.

Student Ben Thomas, 20, said: “We are in this restaurant to show the disparity in lifestyle during this cost of living crisis with people in this upscale restaurant while others cannot heat their homes.

“We are a group of non-violent protesters who also advocate for a plant-based food system.

“We just sat there, the waiters were quite polite, but members of the public – two of them became quite aggressive at one point.

“The woman kept giving me really bad looks just for being there. Customers clapped as we were picked up and taken outside.”

Orin Cooley-Greene, 21, said: “It was tougher than the police would do.”

Mr Thomas also said: “Restaurants like this are a symbol of a broken system.

“While 2million people in the UK currently rely on food banks, influencer chefs are selling more than a thousand pounds of gilded steaks.

“Steaks and other red meats, which we know have the greatest environmental impact.”

An hour after the London restaurant was occupied, 16 Animal Rebellion supporters entered Mana, a Michelin-starred restaurant in the Ancoats area of Manchester.

The restaurant offers a fixed menu from £195 per person and refuses to serve vegans.

Two weeks ago, Animal Rebellion held a protest outside Gordon Ramsay’s 3-star restaurant in Chelsea.

The group claims these measures will continue until the government takes meaningful action on climate and ecological emergencies.

Animal Rebellion claims that meat served at Salt Bae’s restaurants is among the most carbon-intensive foods that can be produced.

A study last year found that meat alone accounts for almost 60% of all greenhouse gases from food production, with beef and lamb being among the worst polluters.
