Speaking to The Mirror, George explained: “There was all this stress of what it takes to get in. There was a list – the utility bill was one of them.

“We were like, ‘Let’s just do it by the book… do whatever they want.’

“I was a bit ignorant of how big an event was. I went on stage and when I saw The Mall I was like, ‘Oh my God’. A few days later I walked down The Mall to soak it all up.

“But it was great to be there in real time.”

The hitmaker, whose tracks are played 15 million times a month, added that even using the loo at the royal residence is a privilege.

He explained: “The electricity bill came in handy because we were allowed into the palace after the concert.

“I was shown the toilet with 20 urinals and thought, ‘Well, that’s not the family quarters, that’s the guest wing.’ It felt like a museum.”

The revelation comes after the talented star revealed the ‘Powers that be’ asked him to change the lyrics to his song Green Green Grass during the Platinum Party At The Palace concert.

Edited the text “Green green grass, blue blue sky, the day I die you better throw a party” to remove the reference to dying.

After the performance, fans took to social media to ask why the singer changed the line.

Speaking to The Sun, George said: “I think the reaction to that kind of worked in our favor to say it was unnecessary.

“My gut feeling was that you don’t have to change it.

“I don’t know if it came from the royals or the show’s producers, but it’s pretty obvious that when you’re playing for the royal family and the powerful, you’re like, ‘We don’t want you to sing that lyric’, then you will not argue.’

The singer said the song isn’t as morbid as it might first seem, as he says it’s about “celebrating life.”

In addition to Green Green Grass, he also performed his hit Shotgun in front of 22,000 spectators and a TV audience of millions.

The musical tribute also featured world stars including Queen + Adam Lambert, Diana Ross, Alicia Keys and Eurovision 2022 runner-up Sam Ryder.

George admitted he wasn’t fully aware of the importance of the occasion.

He said: “The anniversary is a really good example of getting over my head – the magnitude of it.

“It was only when we got on stage and I saw all the flags that I was like, ‘Oh, that’s really huge.'”
