Gilgo Beach Murders: Arrest After Ten Years News

A suspect has been arrested and charged more than 10 years after 11 bodies were found on Long Island, New York. Rex Heuermann, 59, has been charged with the murder of at least three prostitutes, prosecutor Ray Tierney said yesterday.

In a fourth murder case, the New York architect is considered the prime suspect, although no charges have been filed. This could at least partially solve the Gilgo Beach murders that caused a stir in the US from 2010 onwards.

Founded a new research group

The Suffolk County Prosecutor’s Office formed a new investigative group in early 2022. Investigators initially tracked the alleged perpetrator through his car, which a witness had seen at the time.

They then evaluated extensive cell phone data and, based on further DNA testing, were also able to attribute hair found on the corpses to Heuermann. Investigators also discovered that Heuermann’s wife was often absent when the murders took place.

While searching for a missing prostitute, investigators gradually uncovered bodies and body parts along Long Island’s remote stretch of Gilgo Beach. In five cases, the victims were prostitutes. In total, the remains of nine women, a man and a child were discovered on Gilgo beach.
