GOP nominee says Dems in Virginia suggested jailing parents who don’t conform to “wake ideology.”

House GOP nominee says Virginia Democrats are proposing legislation to “jail parents” for “not conforming to woke ideology” after a state delegate suggested charging mothers and fathers with crimes when they refuse to confirm their children’s gender identity

  • Yesli Vega pointed out that Virginia Democrats have proposed legislation that would jail parents who fail to confirm their children’s gender identity
  • Vega is taking part in a close race in the Commonwealth’s 7th District, contested by Democrats for the past two cycles
  • In 2021, Virginians turned red largely due to restrictive pandemic rules affecting their children and sparking the ideology that permeated the classroom
  • GOPers, including Vega, are betting voters will continue the patterns that have emerged in 2021 – this time with added anger at inflation and the economy

Republican congressional candidate Yesli Vega told Fox host Maria Bartiromo that Democrats plan to “jail parents” if they don’t adhere to “guard culture.”

Just two days before the midterm election, Vega told Bartiromo that Commonwealth voters remain heated on the issue of parental rights, which she says have been under constant threat from the left in recent years.

Vega spoke of a Democratic delegate proposing “legislation that will put parents in jail … for not abiding by the ideologies of waking culture.”

“This is crazy,” she said, adding that the “madness we’re seeing from the Democratic Party today” is “scheduled to stop in two days when we flip the 7th District.”

Bartiromo pointed out that the “war on parents” has been stepped up by the current administration as the DOJ and FBI “go after football moms” on orders from Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Garland sent a highly controversial memo last year instructing FBI agents to be strategic in how they counter threats against school board members.

This memo was widely understood to mean that the DOJ was more focused on disgruntled parents who rallied at school board meetings to protest COVID policies and “woke” curricula than on national security threats.

Last month, Virginia delegate Elizabeth Guzman (D) said she plans to introduce a bill that will radically expand the Commonwealth’s understanding of child abuse and neglect to include parents who refuse to share their preferred gender or sexual identity to “confirm” the child.

If parents are charged under the proposed law, they could be charged with crimes and lose custody of their children.

The radical policy, Guzman says, is a direct response to Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s new proposal requiring schools to accommodate all students who match their biological sex.

Per Republican governor policy, students who prefer to be addressed by a different name or pronoun must have written permission from their parents.

Parent activist group Parents Defending Education Action called Guzman’s comments “alarming” and said the proposal posed a “menace.”

“Guzman’s commitment to separating children from their parents is unconscionable and violates both state and federal laws,” the PDE said.

‘PDE Action is committed to taking swift action to oppose Guzman’s forthcoming legislation.’

Likewise, the Virginia Republican Party was quick to condemn Guzman’s bill.

The “Democrats’ message for Virginia is clear: Adopt the far-left gender theory or they will take your children away from you,” they said.

A year ago, Virginia Republicans emerged victorious in the statewide election, where Republicans, including Glenn Youngkin, emerged victorious after a campaign cycle focused primarily on pandemic response by local government and school boards.

Voters have rebelled against their children’s multi-year lockdown, continued mask requirements in schools, and the hyperprogressive race and gender teachings — including CRT — taking place in their children’s classrooms.

Vega is running in Virginia’s 7th Circuit, which has been mostly Republican-held for the past 20 years but is currently held by moderate Democrat Abigail Spanberger, who defeated her opponent last cycle by less than 10,000 votes.
