A month ago, several artists including Isabelle Adjani, Juliette Binoche, Apple and Marion Cotillard cut a strand of their hair to support the protest movement launched in response to the death of Mahsa Amini.
The 22-year-old student died on September 16, three days after she was arrested in Tehran by morality police, who accused her of violating the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code. “What we have done with this gesture is simply to send a message to Iranian women that can give them a little strength,” says Isabelle Adjani.
According to the actress, “the world is in a bad state” because “there have never been so many mentally ill people in power in so many countries.” “It’s not us who will change the policies of the mullahs and bring them back to human sanity,” admits the actress.
Fresh protests erupted across Iran on Sunday, including in universities and Kurdish areas in the northeast, with the protest movement showing no sign of abating despite the crackdown. At least 250 people died in connection with these demonstrations, according to the latest UN report.
