Florida Governor Ron DeSantis abandoned his campaign for the presidency of the United States this Sunday (21), announcing that he supports former President Donald Trump in the race for the Republican Party.

“If I could do anything to get a positive result, more campaign stops, more interviews, I would do it. But I can't ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don't have a clear opinion.” “That's why I'm suspending my campaign today,” DeSantis said in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter).

“It is clear to me that the majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance. They saw his presidency thwarted by relentless resistance, and they see Democrats using legal warfare to attack him to this day. “I've had arguments with Donald Trump, like over the coronavirus pandemic and his elevation of Anthony Fauci, (but) Trump is superior to current incumbent Joe Biden.”

He also cited another candidate in the Republican primary, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley.

“I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee and I will keep that. He has my approval because we cannot return to the old Republican guard of the past, a repackaged package of warmedover corporatism that Nikki Haley represents.”

With her withdrawal, Haley will become Trump's main rival within the Republican Party. She responded to the news at a campaign rally in the state of New Hampshire.

“I want to tell Ron he ran a great race. He was a good governor and we wish him well. However, now there is only one man and one woman left,” the precandidate told supporters.
