“Smile” opens in the US with a gross of $22 million – bloody disgusting

Parker Finn‘s to smile The film received wide distribution in the United States over the weekend, generating a lot of internet buzz not only with positive reviews but also with a clever viral marketing campaign that brought out the film’s creepy smiles in the real world. That enthusiasm has, as we expected, led to box office success for Paramount’s original horror film.

Across 3,645 theaters, Smile opened $22 million at the domestic box office over the weekend, instantly propelling the horror film to the top of the box office. The number is even more impressive globally, with Smile raking in $36.5 million to date!

The reported production budget for Smile was $17 million, meaning the film is on track to be profitable in just three days. Paramount is smiling broadly.

Back in June, Universal’s The Black Phone posted similar opening-weekend numbers on a similar budget, grossing $89 million domestically and $159 million worldwide.
