Climate activists in Germany blocked air traffic at two airports on Thursday by taping themselves to runways in protest at pollution from local transport, causing hours of delays and dozens of cancellations.
“The last generation does not protect the climate, they commit crimes,” said Transport Minister Volker Wissing.
Last Generation, the group behind the protest, called for tougher government action to cut greenhouse gas emissions and immediate plans to cut emissions in the transport sector, and accused officials of lacking a strategy to deal with the climate crisis.
In addition to the disturbances at the airport, the activists launched targeted attacks on traffic in Munich on Friday.
Portal reported that one member of the group concreted himself onto the road while others clung to it, apparently using the same method used in Thursday’s airport disruptions.
This follows a similar protest in April, in which the group glued themselves to the streets of Berlin to block traffic to the Alps, once again attempting to thwart residents’ and travelers’ holiday plans.
“Rather than presenting a concrete plan to prevent this and meet the emission reduction target required by law, the Department of Transport is opting for ‘technological flexibility,'” the group wrote in a statement following the protests at the airport.

A spokesman for the federal police said that Hamburg airport stopped flying around 6 a.m. after nine unauthorized people entered the airfield and eight of them stuck themselves on the runway.
Seven people entered the airfield at Düsseldorf Airport, all managed to stick themselves to the runway, but after several hours the authorities had freed half of the demonstrators.
Hamburg has delayed, canceled or diverted a total of 46 flights, DW reported. The protest came as the first day of school summer vacation began in the city.

The activists are accused of disturbing the peace, coercion and dangerous interference with aviation, the police said.
Minister of Transport Wissing and Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann accused the demonstrators of dividing society by “spoiling the others’ well-deserved and long-awaited annual leave”.
According to the Associated Press, Wissing has blocked several proposals to reduce emissions from aviation and road transport in recent years.
Last Generation insists their protests are peaceful if disruptive, although motorists, who faced delays because the group blocked roads, have at times attacked the activists.
German prosecutors searched the homes of several members of the group in May on suspicion of forming or supporting a criminal organization.
