Summer Feast: The Cowboys Fringants agreed to play just three songs – Le Journal de Québec

Minutes before their Thursday 7:30 p.m. concert, the Cowboys Fringants and Summer Festival considered the group taking the stage to perform just three songs.

In order for this hastily conceived scenario to become a reality, FEQ programmer Louis Bellavance asked the manager of Robert Charlebois, who had started his first part at 6:30pm, to close the stage before the end of his show, at around 7:10pm leave.

“He started Lindberg not knowing it was his last. At that time we wanted to have the cowboys back on site. “Everyone thought they were coming to play,” he said, recounting the excitement that took place backstage on Thursday.

It was then agreed to shorten the concert to three songs, but without success.

“We felt it was dangerous that once they started the show, the evacuation would take longer,” said Louis Bellavance.

The band took the stage anyway, but their impromptu performance was interrupted by the recorded announcement telling the audience to evacuate, which caused some grumbling.

“We had clumsy management,” admits Louis Bellavance.

Everyone gets in

According to the latter, increasing the FEQ by one day is not a simple operation. Make sure you have all the staff and volunteers needed to run the site and that all tickets are valid.

“One hour after the cancellation, [le directeur des opérations] Patrick Martin told me he had the staff for a show and the infrastructure on site. We received the latest agreement from the Quebec City Police Department on Friday morning.

All artists drove 100 miles per hour on the project.

“Everyone said: We’ll be back, we’ll put water in our wine. The Cowboys manager even said he’ll handle the lighting if needed.

Financially, according to Louis Bellavance, “it doesn’t make any sense at all,” but “it doesn’t matter.”

All that’s left is to pray hard, hard, hard for Mother Nature to finally cooperate.
