The People’s Summit is considered a space for defending sovereignty

“We do not accept any further relations that subject our region to a neo-colonial past and therefore this meeting will be a meeting of monitoring and pressure,” the member of the Secretariat of the International Assembly of Peoples told Prensa Latina.

Suñe reminded that the People’s Summit will take place tomorrow and Tuesday in parallel with the III. Summit of the Heads of State or Government of the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) will be held at the Free University of Brussels.

That is why we will demand fair bi-regional relations, as well as economic and trade relations of mutual respect without constraints, he stressed.

According to the Brazilian social leader, the popular summit will also be an opportunity to promote processes of articulation, unity and integration between fighters for a better world on both sides of the Atlantic.

“We will discuss current issues and act together with the European movements in mutual trust and with a defined path in the fight against the challenges, this is a fundamental goal,” he stressed.

Suñe appreciated that scrutiny from the European, Latin American and Caribbean peoples is crucial to achieve equal relations between governments and regions.

We have already seen what happened at the civil society forum that took place here on July 13 and 14, where the EU made an attempt at interference and disrespect by labeling this event without the involvement of any real representation of our peoples , he said.
