Turkish MP and Saadet Party vicepresident Hasan Bitmez suffered a heart attack shortly after saying that Israel would suffer from the “wrath of Allah”. The speech took place during a speech to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey the equivalent of the Chamber of Deputies in Brazil this Tuesday the 12th.
According to journalist Karina Michelin, the MP called for harsher punishments against Jews seconds before he fainted. “Israel: You will not escape the wrath of Allah,” Bitmez declared.
The assembly session was broadcast live on the Internet and by the Anka news agency. The images show the moment the deputy stops speaking and falls to the ground. According to Anka, he hit his head on the steps behind the pulpit. After the fall, Bitmez fainted.
The parliamentarian is 53 years old and suffers from diabetes. He was rescued by colleagues and taken to hospital in critical condition. According to Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, Bitmez is in the intensive care unit (ICU) and his life is in danger.

After the deputy suffered a heart attack during the session, the Vice President of the Grand Assembly of Turkey, Gülizar Biçer Karaca, interrupted the plenary work. The MPs discussed the 2024 budgets for the legislature and also for the country's Ministry of Justice.
According to Anka, the work has been postponed until December 21st. “MP Hasan Bitmez fell ill after finishing his speech and was hospitalized for a heart problem,” Karaca said as he adjourned the session. “Angiography was done. He is currently in intensive care.”
