The Proms, a series of classical music concerts, was interrupted by two activists from Just Stop Oil this Friday night.
Two environmental demonstrators from the British “Just Stop Oil” movement briefly interrupted a concert with classical music in London this Friday evening. As shown in a video posted by the movement on social media, the two activists attempted to wave a banner before being quickly pulled over by security forces.
They intervened during the ‘Proms’, a series of classical music concerts organized at the Royal Albert Hall.
Lawsuits against works of art
“We can’t afford to mess around while Rome burns,” Just Stop Oil wrote on Twitter, adding that the two activists “lit off confetti cannons and honked car horns and demanded that the UK government stop all new oil and gas… “They tried to address the public before they were forcibly removed.”
According to Sky News, the action took place on the first evening of the “Proms”. The Just Stop Oil group has distinguished itself in recent months by targeting artworks. Activists have specifically targeted John Constable’s painting The Haywain at the National Gallery in London, Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring.
