United is adding flights and new routes at its key hub

AAA Media Relations Manager Aixa Diaz offers her best advice to Memorial Day travelers ahead of the third-busiest weekend since 2005.

United Airlines is expanding its presence at its Denver hub, adding more than two dozen new flights and six new routes.

As part of its plans, the Chicago-based airline will double the number of early morning departures and late evening arrivals to and from Denver International Airport this summer, which will help the airline handle the continued surge in travel demand.

New non-stop destinations include Dayton, Ohio; Greensboro, NC; Lexington, Kentucky; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. These routes are not served by any other airline in Denver.

The airline is also adding a dozen new gates and three clubs, including the largest in the airline’s network.

The Denver expansion is part of the airline’s nearly $1 billion investment to improve the Denver customer experience.

“Denver is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and as the Mile High City’s busiest airline, it is important that we have the most modern infrastructure and fleet to support our local employees and customers and provide a great experience,” Scott, CEO of United Said Kirby in a statement.

This is just one of a few measures the airline has taken to prepare for the busy summer travel season, including solid hiring plans.

In April, the airline announced that it will be flying to 114 international cities this summer — including nearly 25 new routes — and that it has expanded its flight offering by 25% compared to 2022, as demand for travel outside the US continues, even at higher fares increases.

Over Memorial Day weekend alone, AAA estimated nearly 3.4 million people will fly, up 11% from 2022 and 5.4% from pre-pandemic levels.

According to the AAA, the airports are expected to be as busy as they have been since 2005.
