With or without a Misteur, Valaire has been making a name for himself on the music scene for almost 20 years with his electro approach that blends jazz, pop and hip-hop. On February 24, the Sherbrooke quintet released a fifth air and dance work entitled “Jazz Futon,” a nod to jazz fusion.
The group, known for their infectious energy on stage, will surely be able to heat up the mood for the start of the first weekend of FIJM on Friday on the Rio Tinto stage at Place Maisonneuve.

DJ Premier & The Badder Band (1 21 July H 30)
The American DJ and producer has been a constant force in the hip-hop world since his early days in the mid-1980s. This true music archaeologist with a strong fondness for jazz has made his name unearthing sampling gems on old vinyl records.
Whether as part of the Gang Starr duo, with rapper Guru, or as a beat producer for the likes of Mobb Deep, Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z and Kanye West, DJ Premier has had and continues to have a major impact on the middle of rhythm design (beatmaking).
He’ll be behind the decks on the TD stage next Saturday, accompanied by The Badder Band, who will add drums, bass, keyboards and brass to his classics.

Laurentian flora (3 20th of July H)
Composer, multi-instrumentalist and arranger Mathieu David Gagnon, aka Flore Laurentienne, creates contemplative instrumentals inspired by the beauty of nature, mixing traditional orchestral instruments and retro synths.
The musician, who released his second work, Volume II, in fall 2022 – inspired by the movement of water and the majesty of the St. Lawrence River – will perform on the Rio Tinto stage on Monday, July 3. He is accompanied by an orchestra of seven musicians.

Jean Michel Blais (3 21 July H 30)
Pianist Jean-Michel Blais, another devotee of meditative instrumental music, surprised fans last year by orchestrating his album Aubades, for which he wrote scores for a dozen performers.
The neoclassical Quebec favorite returned to a more minimalist sound with the follow-up, Serenades, a micro-album released in March. He will take the TD stage on Monday 3 July to present an orchestral version of Aubades, surrounded by 12 musicians.

Domi and JD Beck, opening act for Herbie Hancock (4 July 19th H 30)
French pianist Domi, 23, and American drummer JD Beck, 20, the two virtuosos of the duo Domi and JD Beck, have enjoyed viral popularity across the internet since they met in 2018.
Even before the release of her first album, her talent, young age and refreshing cocktail of jazz, electro and hip-hop created a strong enthusiasm that led her to collaborations with Thundercat, Anderson.Paak, Ariana Grande and Bruno Mars.
Building on the success of their first work, Not Tight (2022), which earned them two Grammy nominations, the duo will open on Tuesday, July 4th on the TD stage to none other than the great Herbie Hancock. A double header not to be missed.

Thundercat (5 21 July H 30)
Stephen Lee Bruner, aka Thundercat, is another virtuoso whose favorite instrument is the bass. We can also hear it on two songs from Domi and JD Beck’s album. Solo, who is also a producer and singer, offers a unique sound inspired by jazz, R’n’B, funk, soul and electro.
Still building on the success of his massive album Drunk (2017), the musician recently released a track in collaboration with Australian Kevin Parker’s musical vehicle Tame Impala. Thundercat will perform on the TD Stage on Wednesday, July 5th.

BadBadNotGood (7 21 July H 30)
Toronto band BadBadNotGood’s reputation is second to none. The group represents a modern jazz sound heavily influenced by hip-hop and has numerous collaborations with renowned rappers such as Kendrick Lamar, Tyler The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown and Ghostface Killah.
The trio released their fifth album, Talk Memory, in 2021. BadBadNotGood will perform on the TD Stage on Friday July 7th.

FELP with Klô Pelgag, Laurence-Anne, Hubert Lenoir and Greg Beaudin (7th July 23 H)
Quebec producer and multi-instrumentalist Félix Petit, who has collaborated with several artists such as Les Louanges, Hubert Lenoir and Safia Nolin, also develops solo as a composer and rhythm designer (beatmaker) under the name FELP.
Inspired by artists such as Mr. Oizo, Flying Lotus, Aphex Twin and Mndsgn, FELP released two self-produced micro-albums, Extended Play (2015) and Chocolop (2017) before releasing their debut album Help on June 9th.
He will present this album on Friday, July 7th on the Club Montréal TD stage on the Esplanade des Place des Arts. He is joined by Klô Pelgag, Laurence-Anne, Hubert Lenoir and Greg Beaudin, who can be heard on songs from his first work.

Macy Gray (8 21 July H 30)
Closing night of the 43rd FIJM features a major soul music artist: American singer and actress Macy Gray, known for hits like “Why Didn’t You Call Me” and “I Try,” which earned her a Grammy Award in 2001 .
The singer-songwriter with a hoarse and high voice will heat up the audience with her R’n’B rhythms for a final concert on the TD stage at the Place des Festivals.

High classified (8th July 23 H)
After Macy Gray’s concert, Montreal producer High Klassified will be tasked with making the last few festival-goers dance into the wee hours of the morning.
Best known for his collaborations with Zach Zoya, Future and The Weeknd, the Laval resident has also released several micro albums under his name. He will be behind the decks on the Club Montreal TD stage at 11pm.
