The Abuses
Michael Valva, a former New York police officer, faces a life sentence for causing the death of his 8-year-old son, Thomas Valva. The little boy was forced to sleep in the garage of the Long Island family home on a night in January 2020 when the outside temperature reached -6 degrees. The child died of hypothermia, which the coroner confirmed as the main cause of death, although there were obvious signs of violence on his body.
Research found the boy and his 10-year-old brother, both with the specter of autism, were often forced to sleep in the garage. The father, angry at her behavior, used to punish her very severely. The night Thomas died, his brother was with him, but luckily he was able to save himself. The children were left out in the cold for over 16 hours before anyone came to them.
It seems that the boys were victims of abuse, which was confirmed by their teachers, who often saw bruises and scratches on their bodies. Both were also malnourished and were often punished with food deprivation. The school had attempted to report suspicious attitudes, but nothing was ever done. In addition to the father of the very young victim, his partner, who is accused of aiding and abetting, will also end up in the process, but she has pleaded not guilty and is ignorant of everything.
