Without a ticket for the baby, an Israeli couple prefers to hand it in at the check in counter…

Both parents were stopped by security guards at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport and arrested by Israeli police.

Surreal scene this Tuesday at Tel Aviv airport, reports our colleagues at The Times of Israel, transmitted by TF1info. A couple who wanted to fly to Brussels, Belgium, left their baby behind and tried to board a Ryanair-operated flight.

Arriving late at Ben Gurion Airport, they had planned to take their child but had not bought a ticket for the little boy.

“All employees were in shock”

Instead of finding a seat on a subsequent flight, they rushed through the security gate to boarding and left the baby at the check-in desk. They were quickly intercepted by airport staff. The couple were ordered to pick up their child before police arrested him.

“All employees were in shock. We’ve never seen anything like it. We couldn’t believe our eyes,” Ryanair said in a statement, which was picked up by local press, TF1info said.

Police have been put in charge of the case and “it is not known if the couple and the baby ended up on the plane,” explains The Times of Israel.
