(OTTAWA) European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen began a brief visit to Canada on Tuesday to promote transatlantic relations.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met Mrs von der Leyen at Canadian Forces Base in Kingston in the morning to meet members of the Canadian Forces who are stationed in Poland to help Ukrainian refugees.
In the afternoon, during a visit to a clean technology company, Mr. Trudeau and Ms. von der Leyen will also attend an event on collaborating on critical minerals in a net-zero emissions economy.
According to Trudeau’s office, they will discuss climate change, gender equality and ways to expand trade and investment.
In the evening, Mrs von der Leyen will address the House of Commons on Canada’s relations with Europe and celebrate International Women’s Day, which takes place on Wednesday.
She will also meet Governor General Mary Simon on Wednesday morning.
