Cameron Diaz says she gave Drew Barrymore “the support she needed” while the talk show host was struggling with alcohol.

The newly non-retired actress admitted the experience was “hard to watch” in a Los Angeles Times profile of her Charlie’s Angels co-star published Sunday.

“I knew that if we all stood by her and gave her the support she needed, she would find her way,” added Diaz, 50, saying she has “absolute faith” in Barrymore’s recovery.

“You can’t even fathom how hard it was being her as a kid and then she shot out the other end with the ability to save herself,” she continued.

Barrymore, 48, announced in December 2021 that she had been sober for two and a half years.

The following year, she confessed to drinking heavily to “numb” the pain of her divorce from her third husband, Will Kopelman, in 2016.

Barrymore married the 44-year-old art consultant in 2012 and they are currently co-parents to daughters Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8.

“Drinking has been a constant for me,” she told People in December 2022 of the aftermath of their “agonizing” breakup.

“It just brought me down,” explained the Never Been Kissed star, who first entered rehab when he was 13. “It was just trying to … feel good — and alcohol totally did that for me.”

In fact, after the divorce, her drinking became so intense that Barrymore’s therapist, Barry Michaels, quit.

“He just said, ‘I can’t do this anymore,'” she explained in the new LA Times story. “I said, ‘I see. … You see, I’m no better. And I hope that one day I can win back your trust.’”

Despite Barrymore’s friends and Michaels slamming her for her addiction, she didn’t stop drinking until she filmed the first episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show” in 2019.

“I think the opportunity on a show like this really hit me,” she explained on profile. “I was like, ‘I can’t handle this unless I’m in a really clear place.’

“I always thought, ‘I’ll get through this. I’ll find out,'” the ET star continued. “And finally I just realized, ‘You never mastered this, and you never will.'”
