• Chevrolet will reportedly unveil its first Corvette SUV later this year.

• Contrary to earlier speculation, the model will initially not be electric.

• The Corvette SUV with internal combustion engine is expected to be available in 2024 as a 2025 model.

• The electric variant would follow later.

It’s not officially confirmed, but Chevrolet is reportedly still active with its plan to expand the Corvette name as a sub-brand, including the launch of a Corvette SUV. But rumors that the first Corvette SUV and four-door sedan would be all-electric seem to have been premature.

According to Car and Driver, the first Corvette SUV will be equipped with an internal combustion engine. The model will not be developed on the automaker’s Ultium platform, which is earmarked for electric models, but on the same rear-wheel drive Alpha platform that powers Cadillac’s performance CT4 and CT5 Blackwing models, as well as the Chevrolet Camaro.

Speculation also points to four separate powertrains for this model. The base engine would be a 4-cylinder turbo (300 hp). Then there would be a biturbo V6 (also 300 hp), a 6.2-liter V8 (400 hp) and finally the same V8 but with a supercharger (682 hp).

Car and Driver even suggests a starting price for the base model of the 4-cylinder Corvette SUV: US$60,000, which is just under 79,000 Canadian dollars.

The magazine also predicts that a first presentation of the Corvette SUV will take place later this year. If so, the logical timeline would dictate that the first Corvette SUV would be a 2025 model, arriving at dealerships towards the end of 2024.

The electric Corvette SUV and 4-door Corvette sedan would follow it, going head-to-head with models like the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan. For these models we can count on an architecture of 800 volts and a charging power of 350 kW.
