Joe Biden expected to announce 2024 candidacy next week

US President Joe Biden could announce his candidacy for re-election in 2024 next week, multiple outlets said on Thursday. According to the Washington Post and especially CNN, citing anonymous sources, Joe Biden is said to start his presidential campaign by releasing a video.

The Washington Post has therefore brought the date forward to Tuesday, April 25, coinciding with its 2019 announcement when it had joined the race to beat incumbent President Donald Trump. However, the daily emphasizes that the Biden team’s plans are not finalized and the announcement could be postponed.

Already the oldest sitting President in the history of the United States at 80, Joe Biden would be 86 at the end of a hypothetical second term. His main opponent on the Republican side right now is none other than Donald Trump, opening the possibility of a rematch in the 2020 election that had exposed the country’s gaping political fault lines.

fight with the Republicans

In 2019, Joe Biden announced his candidacy via video. If many initially viewed him as a “was” who had disappeared from the political world since the end of his tenure as Barack Obama’s vice president, the former Delaware senator had won the Democratic nomination before defeating Donald Trump.

Joe Biden has indicated several times that he would run for re-election, including during his trip to Ireland last week when he said, “I told you I intend to run again.”

However, Joe Biden’s supporters have indicated that he sees no urgency in formalizing his entry into the race. Republicans are grappling with a divisive nomination battle within their own camp, including the specter of a duel between Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis, while the incumbent president benefits from not facing any key Democratic candidates.
