An American Airlines employee died in a runway accident on Thursday. Police report an accident at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas.
Around 2 p.m., the Austin Police Department responded to a report of a crash at the airport, APD spokesman Officer Destiny Silva told reporters during a news conference.
The employee “served a ground service vehicle that hit a jet bridge,” Silva said.
Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the scene for a report of a man with traumatic injuries, KXAN reported.
The man died at the scene, officials said.
Police say the death is being investigated as an accident. No further details were released.
“We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS),” the airline said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members. We are focused on making sure everyone involved has the support they need during this difficult time.”
Airport officials said there have been “no significant impacts” on operations.
“Our thoughts are with this employee and everyone affected by today’s tragic event,” they said in a statement to ABC News.
