Southwest Airlines pilots vote to authorize strike as they push for pay rises in new contract

Southwest Airlines pilots voted to authorize a strike, although Southwest said the vote would not affect flight operations. AP

Casey Murray, president of the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association, said the union will apply to intermediaries for strike permits but will follow the process set out in the law.

The union and the Dallas-based airline have been negotiating a new deal for more than three years.
