A São Paulo influencer denounced on social networks that his voice had been cloned using artificial intelligence (AI) and that the resource had been used to punch his father. The man I lost R$600 when I got a callallegedly by the son asking for a loan.
Dario Centurione published a printout of a conversation he had with his father on WhatsApp. In the messages, the father says he transferred R$600 to someone through Pix after receiving the call with the request (see video below).
Based on his father’s message, Dario suspected that his voice had been cloned for the call and contacted an expert who warned him that the voices of people with a high profile online are more susceptible to this type of scam.
According to the influencer, artificial intelligence resources allow the use of videos and audios on the Internet as a basis for creating new phrases with the similar voice.
For example, Dario has several videos of him on various websites and social networks. He is the creator of “SOS Almanac”a project with everyday tips for young people, such as cleaning tricks, various recipes and even hacks that make everyday life easier.
The video, in which Dario denounced the scam, had more than 1.4 million views on TikTok as of Friday night (12). In the post, the influencer also pointed out to create a safe word with family members to avoid scams.
“You and your family will choose a word that only you know, and if you suspect something is weird, just ask for the word,” he explains.
Ever heard of “live deepfake”?
In the case of the influencer, there are suspicions that the scammer used artificial intelligence to imitate his voice. However, experts warn that AI abilities already allow cloning of a person’s face in addition to the voice.
The calling “deepfake” is a technology that makes it possible to show a person’s face in photos or videos altered using artificial intelligence. Nevertheless, there is still room for improvement and high investments are required.
In the telenovela Travessia, the story of a pedophile posing as a teenager on a video call is an example of the use of technology for crime. In the plot, the criminal’s face and voice were altered by a computer program, allowing him to easily fool anyone who saw him from the other side.
However, make one “Live Deepfake” “With the quality shown in the soap opera, a powerful computer is required that can process changes in real time,” explained Fernando Oliveira, known as Fernando 3D, specialist in this subject and in artificial intelligence at FaceFactory. Learn more here.
And indeed, as more content featuring their faces and voices can be found online, celebrities are more vulnerable.
