Hogwarts Legacy has been on Xbox Series since last February Firstly, Digital Foundry’s analysis now gives a better picture of the state of the game on older generation consoles.
Big compromises on Xbox One
First, the experts compared the Xbox One S version of Hogwarts Legacy to the Xbox Series S version. Unsurprisingly, compromises are made to make the game run on the Xbox One S, and we particularly notice slightly less varied textures and lower quality.
These are also quite slow to load on Xbox One, as it sometimes happens that they only appear after 10 seconds. The vegetation density and the range of migration are also reduced.
We also notice a degradation in shadows and certain lighting effects, while the environments are generally less detailed and contain fewer objects in the scenes on the Xbox One version compared to the Series S version.
In terms of image resolution, the game runs at 720p upscaled via the FSR 1; Digital Foundry concludes that despite these major compromises, the end result isn’t all that bad.
Comparison with PlayStation consoles
In comparison, the PS4 version has the same graphics compromises but offers a higher image resolution in 900p, also upscaled via FSR 1. Sony’s console also offers better management of shadows and ambient occlusion and suffers less from texture popping than Xbox One and even Xbox One X
The latter, on the other hand, shows an image resolution of 1440p when the PS4 Pro is running at 1080p.
Digital Foundry, on the other hand, points out longer loading times on the Xbox One X and display errors specific to the Microsoft console.
Satisfactory performance on Xbox One X and PS4 Pro
As for framerate, the game is aiming for 30 FPS on all 4 supports. The Xbox One and PS4 versions, on the other hand, struggle to maintain that frequency, breaking off on time in dense scenes like fights.
In comparison, the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro have a generally more stable frame rate at 30 FPS. Drops are also possible, but are less severe than on Xbox One and PS4.
Like the Xbox Series
