Major League Baseball has issued “sincere apologies” to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and members of the community for their decision last Thursday. Initially, after complaints from several Catholic organizations and Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio, the Dodgers decided to remove them from the honored groups list on June 16.
“We asked the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to take their place on the field for our 10th Annual LGTBQ+ Pride Party on June 16th. We are pleased to announce that they accept the gratitude of our collective communities for the lifesaving work they have tirelessly provided over decades,” the Dodgers said in a statement.
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are an “order of queer and transgender nuns” whose members are known for their extravagance. The group has donated more than $1 million to organizations protecting marginalized people and is honored with the Community Hero Award at Dodger Stadium.
