Romuald Andy Aman received that eight-year sentence Monday morning at the Quebec courthouse after a court case that dragged on for many years.

To illustrate the extent of the delay, the man was charged in the summer of 2016 and his accomplice in the case had time to serve his five-year sentence before Aman’s fate was decided.

“Clear Message”

In her decision, Judge Annie Trudel agreed with the prosecution’s arguments that Romuald saw Andy Aman as the great mastermind of this prostitution operation, which took victims to motels in Quebec, Montreal, Sherbrooke and Drummondville.

“The court must send a clear message that pimping and any form of sexual exploitation of people under the age of 18 is unacceptable behavior and must be severely punished,” said Justice Trudel, stressing that Aman’s responsibility for the crimes is “full and whole.” complete”.

In defense, the defendant’s lawyer, Me Gabriel Michaud-Brière, said a two-year prison sentence was appropriate, particularly given Ivory Coast native Romuald Andy Aman’s permanent residency status, which could be revoked. The defense also argued that a heavy sentence could be unconstitutional.

“The verdict proposed by the defense is clearly inadequate,” the judge analyzed, adding that she considered the impact of the conviction on the defendant’s status in Canada, but concluded that “the degree of responsibility and the objective seriousness of crimes played a role.” win.”

control over victims

In June 2016, Romuald Andy Aman and his accomplice Emmanuel Ushind Kanane took two teenage girls from motel to motel in multiple regions for ten days.

In fact, one of the two teenagers began attracting clients from day one of their escape from a youth center.

It was Aman himself who was responsible for photographing the young woman, publishing the ads and responding to customers.

He also arranged to drive her when she needed to travel.

He was in complete control of the operation and the two victims.

“The victims were vulnerable, he was in control of them. They left the youth center with no money, no clothes, they were dependent on the accused,” stated Judge Trudel.

The man also manipulated victims into believing clients would offer certain services they declined, exposing them to the wrath of men who had illegally solicited their services.

Guilty on a total of 7 counts

Judge Annie Trudel sentenced the accused to four years in prison for pimping, for a total of eight years.

Romuald Andy Aman was also sentenced to concurrent prison terms of one year for soliciting sexual services on two counts, two years for enjoying material benefits from prostitution and one year for drug trafficking.

Having already served the equivalent of a year and eight months in custody, Aman faces a total of six years in prison.

He will also be placed on the sex offenders registry for 20 years.
