‘Sorry about the traffic’: WWE Host donates kidney behind Ted Williams Tunnel closure – Boston 25 News

BOSTON — The Ted Williams Tunnel was closed to traffic Thursday for two organ transplants, briefly disrupting the morning commute for thousands attempting to move through Boston.

A WWE moderator is now taking responsibility for the shutdown. It was one of her kidneys racing through the tunnel on its way to save a life.

According to a social media post by Megan Morant, her kidney donation was responsible for one of the two closures en route to Logan Airport.

Though Morant says she doesn’t know where the kidney went, she knows it will make a life-changing difference.

“I don’t know where it went but I hope it went first class,” Morant wrote on Instagram. “I know this will change the life of my recipient (who is still a stranger at this moment) forever.”

Westbound I-90 lanes and southbound Route 1A ramps to the tunnel were closed around 8:15 a.m. to allow for transportation, MassDOT announced at 8 a.m. as commuters hit the roads in and around the drove town.

The tunnel was reopened to traffic just after 8:15 a.m., but traffic remained for miles.

At 11:45 a.m., the ramps were again closed to allow for a second organ transport, MassDOT said.

The Ted Williams Tunnel and Tobin Bridge have served as alternative travel routes for motorists since the Sumner Tunnel closed earlier this month. MassDOT says they have been working with public safety and transportation officials to plan for scenarios like Thursday.

“We worked hard on planning so everyone knows their role and what to do in an emergency,” said State Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver. “We were very confident in our approach and this was a great example of how it works in real time.”
