“The patient Rinaldo Amaral (“Mingau”) remains in the hospital in the intensive care unit, is in the process of “weaning” from mechanical ventilation and is in a stable clinical condition. The phase of intracranial hypertension has been overcome and he is now entering the rehabilitation phase, with intensified physiotherapeutic support. The patient is without sedation, opens his eyes, but so far without conscious interaction with the environment,” says an excerpt from the hospital statement sent to the press on Saturday (30).

Three suspects of involvement in the assassination attempt on the musician are arrested; two others remain at large and are being sought. The motive for the crime is still being investigated by the Rio de Janeiro police.

Mingau was injured while driving nearby Praça do Ovo, on Ilha das Cobras, in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro. A friend of the musician said Civilian police that the two were going to have a snack when the car they were in was shot at.
Accordingly Military Police (PM), who responded to the incident, gave Mingau’s companion a different version of what he heard: that they were going to buy drugs. According to the 167th Police Station (DP)which is investigating the case, the Paraty region where the musician was shot is constantly highlighted by drug trafficking and is known as a drug sales hub.

After Mingau was shot, he was rescued and taken there in an ambulance Hugo Miranda Municipal Hospitalin Paraty.
His birthday was September 3rd, the day after the crime. The bassist has been with Ultraje a Rigor since 1999. However, the band was founded in the 1980s. Over the course of their career, the group scored several hits on the Brazilian music scene, including “Inútil”, “Ciúme” and “Você vai invai in dein Strand”.
On the same day, Mingau was taken by helicopter to São Paulo, where he underwent surgery at São Luiz Hospital. The medical team that operated on him told the press that Mingau had been hit on the left side of his head. The bullet went through the brain and out. The bullet was not jammed.

According to doctors, the area hit by the shot is responsible for some motor, speech and visual functions. For this reason, care was taken to avoid neurological complications in the sense of exercise physiotherapy and respiratory physiotherapy.
During his hospital stay, the bassist underwent a tracheostomy (frontal opening of the trachea with the insertion of a cannula to facilitate breathing). On September 20th, Mingau woke up from the anesthesia and opened his eyes.
