The country’s three main junior associations take turns hosting the event and the QMJHL will return to the national finals after next year’s event scheduled in Saginaw, Michigan, in Ontario League territory. With the Maritimes (Halifax in 2019 and Saint John in 2022) facing competition for their last two organizations on QMJHL soil, La Belle Province has a claim to the 2025 Memorial Cup.

The last final played in Quebec was in 2015, the year the Oshawa Generals were crowned in Quebec. The Cataractes have hosted the tournament twice, in 1985 and 2012. This year they won top honors in front of their home crowd. For its part, the Océanic won the competition in 2009.
