A 14-year-old student opened fire at a school in the Russian city of Bryansk, near the border with Ukraine. One student was killed, five were injured, one seriously.
This Thursday, December 7th, there was a shooting at a school in Bryansk, Russia, near the border with Ukraine. A 14-year-old girl came to school with a shotgun and opened fire in a classroom.
According to Russian authorities cited by the BBC, a teenager died instantly. Five people were injured in the shooting, one of them seriously. The shooter committed suicide after her crime.
A classmate told state news agency RIA Novosti that the girl brought the gun to school in a tube to transport papers. Police believe the girl may have been involved in a conflict with other students in her class.
“Neglect”
The weapon used by the shooter, a pump-action shotgun, is a large caliber rifle. According to a parliamentarian quoted by the BBC, the girl's father was the owner of this weapon.
Alexander Khinstein, a member of the Russian Duma, said on his Telegram account that bullets were found in the student's belongings during a search of the school after the attack. He criticized the “negligent attitude” towards the storage of firearms in Russia.
British media point out that there have been repeated school shootings in recent years. In 2022, 18 people were killed in a school in the city of Udmurt. Last year, a 19-year-old killed seven children and two adults in a school in Kazan.
