TVA Nouvelles has learned that an anti-reconciliation bracelet incident occurred last week.
The suspect who was wearing the bracelet managed to get rid of it by cutting it open.
According to the women's shelter association, this would be the first time that an anti-reconciliation armband has been cut since the introduction of this system.
He was ordered to wear this bracelet due to a history of domestic violence.
Last Thursday at around 4:25 p.m., the Longueuil police were informed by a private company in charge of alarm monitoring that an alarm had been triggered due to abnormal handling of the bracelet.
The company transmitted the bracelet's geolocation to the police, who went to the address in question.
We found the cut bracelet on site, but not the suspect.
Authorities soon made sure the suspect's victim was safe.
The man was arrested in the hours after the bracelet was discovered. It was an operation carried out in collaboration with the Roussillon police.
“Due to the intensive handling of the bracelet, an alarm was triggered. The authorities were notified very quickly, which ensured the victim was quickly secured. At the same time, we arrive at the person’s whereabouts,” explains Longueuil city police spokesman François Boucher.
- Listen to the interview with Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu, Conservative Senator, on QUB radio:
It is not possible to know why and how the suspect was able to cut his anti-reconciliation bracelet.
“This is a system that is not infallible in the event of a defect, which is why it was in the protocol and that is what we experienced in this case,” emphasizes the agent Butcher.
However, there are two reasons why an alarm may be triggered. The first is that the suspect enters the prohibited area or has abnormal handling.
We don't know the suspect's intentions yet, but he still came closer to the victim in terms of distance when comparing the location where the bracelet was found and the location where the person was arrested.
The man was arrested and remains in custody. He must return to court to face a charge of violating the conditions.
