Music in Quebec in 2023: the year of Taylor, Miley, the Cowboys and country – Le Journal de Québec

What song was listened to the most in Quebec in 2023? Which artists have played the most on your favorite music platform? Data released Tuesday morning by the Observatoire de la Culture et des Communications du Québec gives us the answers. The newspaper I've broken this down for you.

Taylor Swift dominates

It was everywhere and Quebec was no exception. Who other than Taylor Swift, the absolute queen of pop music, could top the list of most streamed artists in our country in 2023? Rapper Drake, champion in 2022, could only bow to the one who will fill the Rogers Center in Toronto six times in November 2024.

Country favorites

Country music is on the rise in Quebec and we even have some favorites. Morgan Wallen (3rd), Luke Combs (4th) and Zach Bryan (10th) all finished the year in the top 10 most listened to artists. Better yet, four of their songs are among the top 20 most popular, Wallen's “Last Night,” even climbing to the podium thanks to a third-place finish. No country songs appeared on the charts in 2022.

The Cowboys Fringants on the rise

For reasons we know, Les Cowboys Fringants made headlines like never before. Result: In one year the group rose from 15th to 6th place among the most listened to artists. Considering that Karl Tremblay passed away on November 15th and data compiled by Luminate Data between December 30th, 2022 and November 30th, 2023, we can bet that the Cowboys will move up a few notches when the full year results will be announced later in 2024.

Unbreakable Charlotte Cardin

Charlotte Cardin is also at Quebec's feet and can no longer be pushed out of the year-end charts. In 2023, she even achieved the feat of being the only Quebecer to place a song, Confetti, in the list of the 20 most listened to songs. She also ranks 11th among the artists Quebecers listen to the most, up nine places compared to 2022.

Flowers for Miley

What song was played the most in the province in 2023? Here, too, the Quebecers were no different from the rest of America. It is the pop anthem Flowers, Miley Cyrus' love-revenge song, that takes the prize. It follows Glass Animals' Heat Waves, which topped 2022.
