The San Francisco 49ers return to practice on Tuesday afternoon. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said, “It was great” the way his players came back from the bye week.
Shanahan was in good spirits on the podium. When asked when he started preparing for the Green Bay Packers, Shanahan said, “Midway through the second quarter we started really focusing on them.”
Shanahan said the team couldn't execute a game plan last week, so it was first team against first team. For those worried that Brock Purdy might be rusty, Shanahan said the team encouraged him in practice before Week 18, in meetings and in some practices since.
Kyle said, “I'm not worried about Brock at all.”
Christian McCaffrey is fully healed from the calf injury that kept him out of Week 18. He will train fully this week. Shanahan said McCaffrey was “armed and ready to go.”
Edge rusher Clean Ferrell, safety Logan Ryan and linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who missed Week 18 with Achilles tendonitis, will not practice today, but that was planned. Shanahan said Greenlaw had a better chance of practicing Wednesday after the 49ers pushed Greenlaw hard during his rehab on Monday.
Safety George Odum has a chance to be activated from injured reserve before Saturday's game. In this case, the team must take an appropriate step. Odum will be limited during today's practice, as will Arik Armstead.
Speaking of injured reserve, Wednesday is the final day of Danny Gray's 21-day practice window, so the 49ers must decide whether to use Gray from injured reserve.
