Selena Gomez will reprise her role as Alex Russo in a revival of Wizards of Waverly Place.
The Disney Channel fantasy sitcom originally ran from 2007 to 2012 and helped launch Gomez's career.
As Deadline reports, Disney has now ordered a pilot for a reboot of the series, in which David Henrie will also return as Gomez' on-screen sibling Justin.
Gomez was recently cast as folk-rock pioneer Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic.
The original film “Wizards of Waverly Place” was about teenage wizards who live on the titular street in New York's Greenwich Village.
According to reports, the story of the new series will continue after a mysterious incident at WizTech in which an adult Justin Russo neglected his magical powers in order to live a normal, human life with his wife and two sons.
However, he is drawn back into the world of magic when a powerful young wizard shows up at his door looking for an education, and Justin realizes that he must embrace his past to secure the future of the wizarding world.

Last year, Gomez told her Wizards of Waverly Place co-stars that her “biggest mistake” was losing touch with them.
She appeared on the Wizards of Waverly Pod podcast with her former co-stars Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise, who played her best friend and father, respectively.
During a question-and-answer portion of the podcast, Gomez was asked what her “biggest mistake” was, to which she replied, “Probably not keeping in touch with you guys.”
“I was ashamed of the choices I made,” the Only Murders in the Building star explained. “I didn't want you to see me in the state I was in because, firstly, you would have told me the truth, which scares me, and secondly, I didn't want to let you down.”

DeLuise replied, “That’s really sweet and thank you for saying that. We obviously… I miss you and I’m glad you’re okay now.”
Stone, meanwhile, opened up about how she felt when their friendship failed.
“I appreciate you saying that too,” she said. “To put it bluntly… there were times when I thought… 'Did we stop being friends because I didn't tell her what she wanted to hear?' You know what I mean…so I appreciate you being here.”
“I appreciate you very… very much and I love you more than I have ever loved anyone else,” Gomez added.
Gomez has been open about her mental health struggles, which were exacerbated by the show business industry and her fame at a young age.
“I think when I started in my early twenties, things got really dark when I felt like I had no control over what I was feeling, whether that was really great or really bad,” Gomez said in 2022.
