The San Francisco 49ers reached the National Conference Finals for the third straight year with a 24-21 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Saturday evening.
For a spot in the Super Bowl they will face the winners of the game between the Detroit Lions and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which will be played on Sunday.
The 49ers are hoping this time will be the right one after losing in their last two appearances. Last year they were dominated by the Philadelphia Eagles 31-7. Last season they lost 20-17 to the Los Angeles Rams.
For the Packers it is the fifth consecutive loss against the 49ers in a playoff game.
After surprising the Dallas Cowboys last week, they did much the same to the California team. With the Packers leading 21-17 with 6 minutes, 18 seconds left, precision kicker Anders Carlson missed a 41-yard field goal attempt that would have increased the deficit to seven points.
His mistake opened the door for the 49ers. Christian McCaffrey completed the comeback with his second touchdown of the game, a six-yard run, with barely a minute left in the fourth quarter.
