NHL: The Senators know what they're missing

The Ottawa Senators' 2023-24 season is making their fans anything but happy, but new general manager Steve Staios says he knows the exact ingredient his team needs to win consistently.

Therefore, the big man seems willing to make a transaction if it will make his club better.

“I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't look for every opportunity to ensure the success of this team in the short and long term,” he said, whose comments were relayed on Thursday by journalist Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun newspaper “It is extremely important for our group to keep the long-term vision in mind.”

In addition, the team from the Canadian federal capital would be willing to sign a player who would be responsible for both sides of the ice.

“You can never have enough leadership and experience,” Staios continued. This is an aspect I would like to explore. We also study complete players, 200-foot hockey players. We look at things like that.”

Still, nothing seems imminent, as the man who also holds the role of president of the club's hockey department appears to be focused on making the best deal possible rather than rushing.

“The market will determine what happens next. An opportunity could arise at the trade deadline. Otherwise, we will continue to work on it when the opportunity arises in the offseason.”

This season, the Senators have a record of 18-24-1 and are in last place in the National League's Atlantic Division.
