Israel's relentless offensive against Gaza continues and has already killed more than 26,000 people and injured at least another 65,000. More than 11,000 of those who died are boys and girls. The southern town of Khan Younis, previously designated a “safe zone”, continues to face heavy shelling and Israeli sniper fire, with Nasser and al-Amal hospitals reportedly being targeted. Hundreds of families have fled the area in recent days after Israeli forces surrounded the town.
World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, visibly moved by the situation in the Gaza Strip, called for an immediate ceasefire.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus: “70% of those who died are children and women. This consideration alone is enough for a ceasefire, because we already know that they make up the majority of the victims. That's why I think the situation should be taken seriously. And by the way, the number of deaths will increase in the future not only from injuries, but also from chronic diseases.”
