Grant Denyer reveals the truth behind his near-fatal incident on The Amazing Race Australia after he collapsed on set

Grant Denyer has claimed his near-death moment on The Amazing Race Australia last year was much worse than what was broadcast.

The 46-year-old Logie winner suffered a frightening medical emergency and collapsed due to heat stroke after taking part in a dance competition with his wife Chezzi in the humid Indian weather.

Speaking to Yahoo Australia, the TV host said: “Most of the time on TV we tend to turn up the drama and this time we turned it down a bit on the show because it was quite confronting.”

“I didn’t realize how hard and potentially deadly it was.” [heatstroke] “is… when you lose consciousness and then stop again and are twitching on the floor, it's not easy for everyone around you at that time,” he added.

Grant went on to say that it took him seven weeks to fully recover from the ordeal.

In dramatic scenes aired, Grant is seen on the ground as paramedics struggle to give him urgent medical attention as Ms Chezzi looks on.

“Can we get the medic? “He’s shaking, he’s shaking,” a voice can be heard saying.

“We were cooking from the inside,” Chezzi told the cameras after completing their latest challenge.

Then suddenly things took a turn for the worst when it turned out that Grant was very unwell.

“You have to sit down.” Grant? You're not feeling well, are you? “You look like you’re about to faint,” Chezzi shouted.

Paramedics soon took him to an air-conditioned room, but his face was worryingly pale.

“He doesn't look good – he's on the floor shaking,” said Survivor star George Mladenov as he watched from outside.

“He was really pale and kept passing out, and I thought, 'This is really serious. I don’t think he realizes how serious this is,” Chezzi said.

Grant eventually recovered enough to sit up and walk around – but it was too much for them to continue the race and the pair dropped out of the show.
