Women from the Democratic Republic of Congo marched in Kinshasa against the war

Kinshasa, February 15 (Prensa Latina) Thousands of women from various political directions, movements and associations marched in this capital dressed in black to demand an end to the war in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Radio Okapi reported today. .

After the mobilization, which took place the previous day at the initiative of the Ministry of Gender, Family and Children, participants sent a message to President Félix Tshisekedi in which they reiterated the desire for peace and security for the conflict zone and expressed solidarity with their compatriots . from the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The letter denounced “the massacres and atrocities” affecting people in Ituri and North Kivu provinces and blamed Rwanda and the rebels of the March 23 Movement (M23) for the “unjust and recurring wars” that they are leading “The plunder of our resources,” explained the Minister of Gender, Family and Children, Mireille Masangu.

During the hour-long march through central parts of the city, the head of the branch criticized the complicity of the international community, which she accused of being partial to the oppressors.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the National Coalition of Women Leaders for Parity, Patricia Maisha, said they will work to raise awareness among the population to be vigilant and denounce the enemy.

“People also have to contribute to peace,” said Radio Okapi.

Accompanied by Congolese police, the mobilization was a far cry from the violent protests of February 10, when several citizens attacked personnel of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (Monusco), diplomatic headquarters of several Western countries and vehicles.

The event sparked opposition from Monusco, representatives of various nations and the Congolese government itself, which on Monday repressed a demonstration called on the same grounds.
