The cessation of activities at the Imperial Cinema forces the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma to relocate

Less than a week before the start of the celebrations, the organizers of the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma (RVQC) are forced to change the locations of several of their screenings due to the suspension of activities at the Cinéma Impérial.

In a press release Thursday morning, the RVQC announced that the events originally scheduled to take place at the Cinéma Impérial have been moved to other Montreal venues, including the Théâtre Outremont, the Cinéma du Musée and the Pierre Mercure Hall at the Center Pierre – Péladeau and the Cinéplex Odéon Quartier Latin.

Remember that the Imperial Cinema's operations have been suspended since January 31 to allow the curators of the listed building to focus on its restoration and renovation projects.

Last December, the establishment's board spokesman, Benoit Clermont, announced to the media that the Cinéma Impérial might have to close its doors at the end of January if it did not receive major federal financial support for its renovation and restoration work.

By email on Feb. 5, Mr. Clermont told the Journal that “negotiations with Ottawa are going well.”

The 42nd edition of the RVQC will take place from February 21st to March 2nd. It is the film Lucy Grizzli Sophie, an adaptation of the play La meute, which will open the ball on February 21st at the Théâtre Outremont.
