Party lawmakers claim the president committed “racism” and “antiSemitism” by comparing Israelis to Hitler
The Novo party bench in Congress has decided to send a criminal report against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to the PGR this Sunday (February 18, 2024). MPs Marcel van Hattem (NovoRS), Adriana Ventura (NovoSP) and Senator Eduardo Girão (NovoCE) claim that the PT member “committed the crime of racism” when she made a comparison between Israel's attacks on the Cat Belt with Adolf Hitler's actions in Germany.
“Today Lula has once again managed to outdo himself with his criminal, abnormal and antiSemitic statements against the Jews. Comparing Israel's legitimate response to Hamas's cowardly attacks with what Hitler did during Nazism is completely regrettable and inexplicable!” he wrote Deputy Marcel van Hattem on X (exTwitter).
The MP also said that the speech was “pure antiSemitism” and that “Lula must be held accountable.” On Friday (February 16), the Novo party submitted another criminal report against Lula, saying Lula had “committed the crime of terrorism” by announcing he would make additional contributions to the United Nations' Palestinian refugee agency .
This Sunday (February 18), Lula said again that the Palestinians were the target of “genocide” and that Brazil would defend the creation of a Palestinian state at the United Nations.
“It is important to remember that Brazil was the first country to recognize the Palestinian state in 2010. We have to stop being small when we need to be big. What is happening to the Palestinian people in Gaza does not exist at any other point in history. In fact, it existed when Hitler decided to kill the Jews,” the PT member told reporters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
