The 27 EU countries approve the new sanctions against Russia

EU ambassadors have just reached an agreement in principle on the 13th sanctions package related to Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Belgian Presidency made this clear by clarifying that the package is “one of the most comprehensive packages approved by the EU”. It will now undergo a written procedure and will be officially approved on February 24th.

“I welcome the adoption of our 13th sanctions package against Russia. We must further reduce Putin's war machine. With a total of 2,000 nominations on the list of restrictive measures, we are keeping the pressure on the Kremlin high. We are also further reducing Russia’s access to drones.” The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen writes it on X.

“We must protect our democracy and our values. Our appeal is so great that many other countries want to join. We must defend ourselves against Euroscepticism and Putin's friends, inside and outside the EU,” said Ursula von der Leyen in the press conference organized for his candidacy for the presidency of the EPP Commission.
