There are traditions in the National Hockey League (NHL) that are as old as time, such as the famous octopus throws by Detroit Red Wings fans, but of course not everyone likes them.
Recently, the octopus has appeared several times during Michigan games. During the team's visit to Calgary on Saturday, one of them was thrown to the ice in the third period.

However, this clearly didn't sit well with Flames defenseman MacKenzie Weegar, who seemed disgusted to see this member of the cephalopod family on the ice.
“It looked like a lot of slime,” Weegar said in comments provided by journalist Julian McKenzie of The Athletic. I saw it, it was disgusting. It was a shame he was thrown there.”
Weegar and the Flames certainly weren't in a good mood, trailing 4-0 when the creature landed on the icy surface. As a reminder, Calgary suffered a crushing 5-0 loss to Detroit.
Additionally, a similar event occurred on Saturday when the Red Wings visited Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on Monday.
For several years, fans attending local Wings games at Olympia and then Joe Louis Arena threw octopuses to highlight their favorites' good shots.
