The man who died in Monday's hostage-taking in Saint-Malachie is Patrick Martin, 29 years old.

The coroner's office confirmed this Wednesday afternoon.
According to our information, one of the hostages being tortured in a residence on Kelly Road managed to break free and kill one of the attackers associated with the ringleader, Dave “Pic” Turmel.

Patrick Martin was born in 1994 and had no criminal record related to violence or drugs.
His file only lists a few relatively minor cases.
In autumn 2013 he is said to have failed to stop in an accident.
Five years later, in 2018, he was convicted of drunk driving. He spent 20 days in custody and also received a two-year suspended sentence. An indictment for a misdemeanor can also be seen in autumn 2020. He then benefited from a suspended sentence and a twelve-month suspended sentence, and he also had to pay a donation.
Until the end of 2023, Patrick Martin lived on Rue de la Faune in Quebec. A few years earlier his home was in the Montmagny area.
