The Montreal retailer just signed a check for $2.5 million, nine months after a class-action lawsuit was filed against it. The price of its organic tax products was not properly advertised, the lawsuit said.
“It is a technical appeal on a specific topic. At $2.5 million, we are happy with the agreement,” attorney on record Joey Zukran told the Journal.
Dollarama – $5.3 million a day in profits last quarter – preferred to settle rather than know whether the judge would allow the appeal or not. No admission of responsibility or fault on his part was required.

The error is that the amount of the eco-fee was incorrectly stated, a type of tax levied on those who recycle our devices in Quebec.
For example, a pack of four AAA batteries cost $1.25, with an eco-fee of $0.20 listed next to it in smaller font.
All Quebecers who purchased an eco-friendly product from Dollarama between December 2019 and July 2023 are members of the class. No invoice is required.
To receive the gift card with a maximum value of $15, individuals simply need to provide their email address at reglementecofraisdollarama.com before April 5, 2024.
The amount offered depends on the number of registered members. If the entire $2.5 million is not claimed, the money will go to charity.
