Pharmacies across the country are reporting delays in prescription orders due to a cyberattack against one of the country's largest health technology companies.

Change Healthcare, a company that processes orders and patient payments across the U.S., first noticed the “cybersecurity issue” affecting its networks on the East Coast on Wednesday morning.

“Change Healthcare is experiencing a network disruption related to a cyber security issue and our experts are working to resolve the issue. When we became aware of the external threat, in the interest of protecting our partners and patients, we took immediate action to disconnect systems to prevent further impact,” Change Healthcare said in a statement.

It added: “We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

Pharmacies across the country have indicated that the attack on Change Healthcare is impacting their ability to process patient orders.

“22d Medical Group is experiencing a temporary pharmacy outage. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work diligently to resolve the issue. Our team is working to restore all pharmacy service as quickly as possible,” reads a post from the 22nd Medical Group, a medical center based around McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas.

The announcement continues: “We CAN receive your RX, but for MOST insurance plans we cannot bill your insurance company. If you can wait a day or so to pick up your RX that would be great. If you need them today, we can do our best to address individual needs.”

The service outage is expected to last until tomorrow, but Change Healthcare has not provided a definitive timetable for service resumption.
