Our NHL expert's pick of the day: Panthers hold off Hurricanes

Hello everyone! After winning the previous two bets, we lost the bet on the Canadian yesterday. Despite the defeat, I don't regret taking this risk.

Montreal led 2-1 midway through the game and finished with 31 shots compared to 23 for Buffalo. In my opinion, the CH with positive odds here was worth the risk.

Sometimes you make a good bet and still lose. It's part of the game!

Today's selection includes a win for the Florida Panthers, who travel to Carolina to face the Hurricanes.

Today's selection is based on one of my National Hockey League (NHL) systems: the stingy goaltender system. Would you like to know the rules? Let me explain it very briefly.

If the home team has won their last three games by allowing three goals or fewer each time, and their decimal odds are less than 2.25 (or +125 in the American format), you must bet against them. By adhering to this rule, significant progress has been achieved in recent years.

The Hurricanes will enter tonight's game having won their three previous meetings. These triumphs came at the expense of the Chicago Blackhawks (6 to 3), the Vegas Golden Knights (3 to 1) and the Arizona Coyotes (5 to 1).

In decimal format, Carolina's odds are 1.83. According to the rules we have to exclude them tonight.

So my official NHL pick for February 22nd is the Florida Panthers, who have approximate odds of 2.00 to win. After a short pause, let me present further arguments in support of this choice.

Let's take a closer look at this confrontation. The Panthers are on a six-game winning streak and are in second place in the Atlantic Division. They have a 37-15-4 record this season and an impressive 20-7-2 away record.

On the other hand, the Hurricanes are simply incredible. They have won three meetings in a row and are in second place in the Metropolitan Division. Their home record is 18-6-4.

The last time these two teams crossed swords was in November. The Panthers won 5-2 at home. Prior to this game, they had defeated the Canes 4-0 in the Eastern Conference finals in May. In fact, the Panthers have won eight of the last ten meetings between the two teams. In other words, they currently have the Canes' number.

Florida's goaltending has been solid this season. Sergei Bobrovsky will likely be the starter between the pipes. He was strong throughout the season, maintaining a .915 save percentage and allowing an average of just 2.39 goals per game.

In the opposing camp, Pyotr Kochetkov will generally appear in uniform. His stats are slightly lower than Bobrovsky's: a GAA of 2.46 and a save percentage of .905.

One factor in this game that I will be watching will be the matchup between Sebastian Aho of the Hurricanes and Sam Reinhart of the Panthers. Aho has totaled 59 points this season, ranking 18th in the league in that regard. Reinhart is in 14th place with 67 points (39 goals and 28 assists). This will be an exciting battle between two impressive skaters.

It's hard to bet against the Panthers tonight. They haven't lost an away game since mid-December. The Hurricanes are a good team and will ensure that their rivals face tough opponents. However, the Panthers are building something special. They are on track to go even further and win the Stanley Cup this year. Given these odds, I believe Florida will pick up their seventh straight win by defeating the Hurricanes in Carolina.
