A few months after announcing the arrival of Bryan Adams, the Innu Nikamu Festival in Mani-Utenam adds even more sparkle to its program by confirming the presence of singer Samantha Fox.
The performer of the mega-hit “Touch Me (I Want Your Body)” will appear on stage at the site of the former indigenous residential school of Mani-Utenam, an Innu community near Sept-Îles on the north coast August 2, as part of the 40th edition of the Innu Nikamu Festival.
With Bryan Adams and Samantha Fox headlining, Innu Nikamu strengthens the international aspect of its festival, which was originally intended as a showcase for the province's indigenous artists.
Important visibility for the Innu
Over the past 20 years, internationally known acts such as Blue Rodeo, Gypsy Kings and Simple Plan have performed on the Mani Utenam stage. According to the coordinator Normand Junior Thirnish Pilot, these big names are in no way harmful to the visibility of local artists, on the contrary.
“I'm coming to see Samantha [Fox]She [les festivaliers] is exhibited to local artists. It will never happen that indigenous artists lose their visibility,” he told TVA Nouvelles.
This year, following the record turnout of 15,000 people for the 2023 edition, the coordinator expects 25,000 festival-goers to pass through the event's turnstiles.
The Innu Nikamu Festival takes place from July 30th to August 4th in Mani-Utenam. Bryan Adams will be in charge of closing the final evening of celebrations.
